Azaleas for sun and shade
A major Davidson achievement has been the introduction of a range of Full Sun Azaleas from the USA and Europe to complement the range traditionally grown in Australia. They are also importing the new Shade and Semi-shade varieties from Europe. These new Azalea hybrids are exclusive to Davidson's and now make up around half of the nursery's sales to the trade. In 1987 Davidson's received Government approval to operate its own quarantine house. More and more new material is being imported for trial in Australia, and expensive Azalea stock can now be nurtured at Davidson's instead of being held at a distant Government establishment. Rodger Davidson's close contact with overseas governments, universities, research bodies, specialist growers, hybridisers, nursery machinery companies and fertilizer suppliers provides a sound foundation for one of Australia's most innovative and efficient wholesale nursery operations.
